Intercultural Management Congress

We cordially invite you to participate in this year's X edition of Intercultural Management Congress which will be held from 15th September 2016 untill 16th September 2016 in Warsaw and XXII PGV Conference entitled:   The European challenges. Union Globalized or localized ? The transformations of economics,  societies and cultures  of the EU into the world.

Event will be organized by  by the University of Social Sciences (Łódź,Poland) and ClarkUniversity (Worcester, USA) and Conseil d’Administration du réseau PGV.

In contemporary global environment of international business, culture and differences arising from culture play an immense role. In the face of the specific character of business in the XXI century, complicated net of international connections, tightening cooperation between countries and economies, perfectly functioning international transport, still galloping technological development, only those managers who understand cultural differences and who know how to derive from the wealth offered by culture are successful. They possess a significant advantage over those for whom cultural differences are just a minor issue in their global business.

If we want to be effective as organizations and individuals acting within their frameworks we have to learn to think and manage in a culturally competent way. We should get to know cultural values and differences, barriers and problems stemming from them. Never before has the need for intercultural aspects of management been so great. Joint ventures, license agreements, takeovers, contracts having place between partners from discrepant cultures require a great cultural sensitivity from managers. The vision of Marshal McLuhan’s global village has become an everyday life where people from the farthest corners of the world meet face to face. In order to become competitive organizations require certain tools which will allow them to use the ubiquitous cultural heterogeneity effectively.

Aims of the Congress

Comparing and contrasting different views on the theory and practice of international management.

  1. Taking a multicultural perspective on public management and administration.
  2. Identifying challenges of managing diversity in a global context.
  3. Providing useful and more practitioner-oriented knowledge of intercultural management.
  4. Increase attention to the role of communication within organizations around the world.
  5. Sharing knowledge on effective communication, negotiation and leadership across cultures.

What is more EU is developed and integrated zone. But comparing to growing Asia and other continents the significance of EU in contemporary world is shading. There are several local problems concerning: cultural tensions, economic slowdown, demographic decline, military turbulences at the EU borders and regional political discrepancies. The assessment of achiving the objectives of Lisbon Strategy 15 years after proves that we are far behind. Taking into account these limitations we can ask more general question: „Is European Union losing its global importance?”. The answer on this question bears into mind more issues like:

1. EU in Globalisation Processes,
2. European Crisis and its Resolutions,
3. Cultural Convergence or Divergence in Europe,
4. Competitiveness of EU Entreprises,
5. Demographic and Social Problems in Europe.
